The ergonomics of the Gamecube controller strongly resembles that of its Nintendo predecessors, specifically the Nintendo 64 controller. Using that general design, the creators "dumbed-down" the controller by taking away many of the buttons. The result is an extremely easy to use controller that is very comfortable to hold.
The major innovation in this controller are the left and right triggers, which are analog and also 'click' if they are pressed hard enough. In effect, they eliminated an extra two buttons by combining features (Family Tree).
